She has lectured to the family practice residents at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Dr. Sherman has been a guest on many television and radio shows, having appeared for twelve years on “Good Morning, Houston” as well as appearing on the “Today” show. She is listed in the International Who's Who in Sexology. Dr. Sherman helps people with a variety of problems. Her specialty is sexuality. The most common sexual dysfunctions or problems related to sexuality are lack of interest in sex, problems with erections, premature ejaculation, delayed orgasm in men, lack of orgasm in women, premenstrual syndrome, vaginismus, sexual abuse, sexual addiction and gender issues. Both individual and couples therapy is available. Dr. Sherman will work closely with your physician when indicated. Dr. Sherman also works with individuals and couples having relationship problems. Individuals in a relationship may find themselves interacting with each other in a way that is harmful and destructive to the relationship. You may find that you can’t get out of this by yourself. This is like spinning your tires in the mud – getting more deeply into a hole. Therapy is like putting a board under the tire and allowing the power of the relationship to pull you out of the mud. Dr. Sherman is committed to the goals the couple brings to therapy. Communication skills and conflict resolution skills are frequently an important area to be emphasized. Each couple’s problems are unique and therapy is individualized for each couple. A third area in which Dr. Sherman assists individuals and families is in medical crisis counseling and counseling related to chronic illness. Certain diagnoses, like cancer, can be very difficult and supportive therapy is often very helpful. Counseling is available for the individual as well as for the family. It is Dr. Sherman’s delight to work with individuals approaching or past retirement age who have unresolved issues or who are interested in maximizing this period of their lives.
